Harriet C Fitzgerald

Dr Harriet Fitzgerald is a Research Fellow at The Ritchie Centre, Hudson Institute of Medical Research and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Monash University, in the research groups of Prof Caroline Gargett and Prof Beverley Vollenhoven. Harriet completed her PhD with Prof Lois Salamonsen at Hudson and Monash investigating female idiopathic infertility. She undertook a 4-year postdoc in Prof Tom Spencer’s lab, University of Missouri, USA, where she was awarded a Lalor Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, established the hormone responsiveness of human endometrial epithelial organoids (EEO) and was the first to analyse EEO by single cell RNA sequencing. She is an Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellow. Harriet utilises ‘omics and 3D endometrial co-culture models to investigate the role of the endometrium, endometrial cell-cell communication and endometrial stem/progenitor cells in endometriosis. Harriet’s research goal is to define endometrial dysfunction in endometriosis and endometriosis subtypes, harnessing these findings to develop novel treatments for endometriosis and endometrial infertility.
